So I traded in my vehicle for a slightly older one to stay out of a car payment and my biggest complaint – the stereo.  My trade-in had a subwoofer with amp, Bluetooth, six disc changer and satellite radio. My new one?  Just a CD player.  So I’ve listen to nothing in the car except the new Metallica on repeat for since the day it was released.

I wasn’t too sure about the “new” sound of Metallica when I head the title track. The lyrics “We’re all #$&^ed, %#!& out of luck, hardwired to self destruct” was one of the dumbest lines I had ever heard but now I take it back.  This new album is great.

It’s the perfect mix of Master of Puppets + Reload + Death Magentic with a splash of a new feeling and vibe from the band. Lars is at the top of his game and is really taking the sound of current metal forward and not just trying to do the same thing. My only compalaint would be the lack of inluence from Kirk Hammett while it’s all just riff aftter riff.  He brings a flair to the bands song structures far from just palm muting but after reading this it all makes more sense.

Now That We’re Dead is the stand out track for me.
