In my quest to explore all of Idaho I find myself drawn to these towns that were established prior to the 20th century. Idaho City, Atlanta (Idaho), Salmon, Shoup, Bayhorse, and over the weekend I crossed another off my list. Placerville. I quickly was corrected in saying plass-er-ville instead of place-er-ville.
Discovered in August of 1862 and there’s not much there… a graveyard. (The heart-shaped stone in the front has a DOD of 1906)
This random cow standing in the road.
A few houses/cabins and the remnants of a gas station. I didn’t snap any pictures of the structures because I got the feeling that the residents of Placerville were there because they didn’t want to be posted on websites and Facebook. It would of felt like a betrayal of trust to me. You don’t move that far out because you want to be noticed. Snapped this cool rainbow on my way in.
I actually ended up in Placerville by accident, I had read that they stocked Grimes Creek and I was originally heading towards Centerville to start fishing my way down but I must of blinked and missed it.
Next on my list are Silver City and Dickshooter Idaho. Both very real and both very small, no pun intended.
