Southern Blood

Up until the day before he passed away, Gregg Allman was working on a new solo album called “Southern Blood“.  I’m blown away, it eerlly reminds me of that last Johnny Cash album.  His voice sounds haggard yet powerful and his lyrics touch on his mortality, smoking weed, and love.  It’s incredibly sad yet I’d have to say my pick for album of the year.  It gives me chills.

I caught Gregg’s show a few years ago at the Idaho Botanical Garden and I remember stading by the soundboard and this blonde woman kept cathing my eye.  Did I know her? Had I met her somewhere before?  I must have…but where?  Then I realized it was 29 year old wife, Shannon.  I didn’t say anything to her, I felt like she was getting away without anyone knowing who she was and I didn’t want to spoil it.  I already felt bad because I had asked Gregg a couple of personal questions about his health and I think I offended him on the phone.

I really don’t like what people call “country” music today but this…this is true Country Music.  “Southern Blood” comes out September 8th with pre-orders avaialbel online here and listen to “My Only True Friend Below”. – Forrest
