A Cross Country Music Discussion

The other night I got a text from a former coworker we’ll call David.  Because that’s his name.  During his time at the station, we spend many an hour talking music. We”re the same age, so the discussions were centered on the same time in music history.  While he like the heavier/punkier stuff, and I am more of a prog rock guy, we did share common ground on quite a few bands/musicians.  As he is currently living in Nashville, the conversations have decreased in number, bu there are text conversations every once in a while.  Like this one. The text  was this:  “Dude!  I don’t know if we’ve ever discussed it, but Mark Knopfler is a great f*^%@ing song writer”.  As the conversation lasted into the next day, I’ll boil it down to the highlights.  We had discussed the great music of Dire Straits, but not necessarily Mark’s songwriting.  It came down to choose your favorite Dire Straits album:  Love Over Gold or Making Movies.  We both chose Making Movies.  We both agree both are good, but Making Movies is a better album.  The definition of album according to the internet is A collection of recordings issued as a single item on CD, record or another medium. Love Over Gold has great songs, but Making Movies is a better collection.  The defining song for me: “Skateaway”.  The song is great and the video….pure genius!
