Guitar Center is reporting it lost $11 million from investors and is laying off more than 100 employees. This is my Toys R’ Us people. If they have a liquidation sale here are my top 5 picks.
1) 1958 Korina Flying V
The kind Albert King used. Starting price: $899.00
2) Gibson Chet Atkins
The name says it all. Also the guitar used by James Hetfield on “The Unforgiven”. Listed price: $1,599.00
3) Gretsch Falcon White
Played by Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters, Brian Jones from the Stones, Neil Young, Steven Stills, Roy Orbison, Malcolm Young from AC/DC and Richard Fortus from Guns N’ Roses. Starting price: $3,599.00
4) VOX tube amp
I sold my Fender 1960’s tube amp and then my Marshall Halfstack because I’m an idiot. Tube amps just sound cool. If it was good enough for The Beatles it’s good enough for me. Starting price: $1,199.99
5) Les Paul Jr.
Hard to pick the last one, I want to go with a Sunburst Les Paul like Jimmy Page, Joe Perry or Slash but I’m changing my mind at the last minute. Les Paul Junior. Don Barnes from .38 Special played one and he told me all the guys in the south in the 70’s were playing them. Plus with 2 nobs & 1 humbucker it’s a pretty simple guitar at a pretty cheap price. Bottom line is I’ve always wanted one. They make them in TV Yellow and I few other colors but I prefer the sunburst look. Starting price: $139.99.
