Alice in Chains on Cornell & Bennington

They both were friends with Alice in Chains on a 1st name basis.  Money, fame, talent…still not enough to make them happy.  I found it weird that as soon as Chris Cornell died it was DAYS until Pearl Jam or The Foo Fighters even said anything.  Alice in Chains responded publicly the very next day.  Simple, powerful, perfect.

That’s small for even a Tweet yet speaks volumes.  Heartbroken.  Ouch.  You can hear the pain in Jerry Cantrell’s voice in the video below and he admits, “I’m an alcholic”.  I met him once.  It was a Midnight Madness sale and I was working in radio on the East Coast on the night before Cantrell’s solo album “Boggy Depot” came out and he was there signing autographs.  Since I was working there I didn’t want to let on that I was a fan so I waited untl the very last minute to say hi.  He smelled like booze.  For a minute I was disapointed but then I thought, “I bet this guy did heroin with Kurt Cobain, he’s allowed to have a beer if he wants.” – Forrest
