Soccer

I’m a big soccer fan, I’ve been playing since I was 6 and I played for a month in South America and on a scholarship in college.  I also coached for MLS affiliate youth teams before moving to Idaho.  I did try out for an MLS team once, I am not that good but when your dream job has open tryouts, you tryout  I still play today and finished out the indoor season last night, guess which team I’m on.

Last night there were 2 goals on TV by 2 of my favorite current US players and they’re just too good to not share.

1) Wayne Rooney’s half field goal.  I’ve seen other players like David Beckham do this and maybe twice in the local level but this way beyond my skill set.  If I set up 5-6 soccer balls at the half field mark and took kicks on an open goal, I might be able to make 1 or 2 of those but Rooney does this during a professional game, past the half mark and one touches it.  He deserves more credit than he gets.

2) Jozy Altidore.  I think this is my favorite home grown US player and another guy I think is just a stud and doesn\’t get enough credit. I mean, this guy debuted in the MLS at the age of 16, he scores goals when there\’s no good opportunity to score goals.  Last night he helped the USMNT advance in the Gold Cup.

If you want to watch some soccer in Boise, Arena Soccer is coming back to Centurylink Arena for the 3rd year in a row with USA vs Mexico and will feature U.S. Star Landon Donovan.
