The year was 1975. Out of the radio came Neil Sedaka and Elton John singing “Bad Blood”. My first thought was “Hmmmm, catchy tune, Neil and Elton sound great together, it’s a little poppy…..WHAT’S WITH THAT FLUTE? Did they just say BITCH?!” Despite the flute, and maybe because they did indeed say bitch-pretty racy for ’75- the song was number one for 3 weeks. To this day I wonder what the song would sound like if the flute were a sax…or Jimmy Page on guitar. I still like the song, and it will play every once in a while on the iPod. But….what if instead of the flute it was a Hammond B3?
